Eisenhower Seeks Bipartisan Support for 1955 Agenda

President Eisenhower urged Congress to delay April tax cuts and aims to push the essential parts of his 1955 program through a Democratic-led House. He plans a January State of the Union address and a mid January budget message proposing a fiscal year spend of 63 to 64 billion dollars with a roughly 3 billion dollar deficit. Senator Lyndon B. Johnson said bipartisanship was the goal and administration leaders would meet with lawmakers to discuss foreign affairs and defense programs.

Common Pleas Courts Act To Close Out Oldest Cases

Hartford action aims to reduce a congested docket by scheduling Monday sessions through Friday in Fairfield New Haven and Hartford counties. Judges will hear 45 oldest cases filed 1936 to 1948 with trials not held and some may be withdrawn.

Two Inch Rain Drenches Bridgeport City and Floods Cellars

A two inch rainfall drenched the Bridgeport area causing temporary flooding of low-lying properties and inundated cellars. Despite fogged windows and slick streets, no major auto crashes occurred. After a six hour session with Local 267 IUECTIO and the State Board of Mediation and Arbitration, talks collapsed with no settlement in the five week Underwood strike. A third mediation session is set for this afternoon in City hall. Union pickets remain at the Broad and Allen streets plant with eight supervisors entering under police escort to perform maintenance and heating changes. Judge J Joseph Smith in Hartford issued a preliminary injunction restraining mass picketing by the company, while company counsel seeks dissolution of the injunction request.

Three Dead in Maine Beach House Fire

Five people were feared dead in a blaze at a two story oceanfront house in Northport Maine. Among the deceased were three children ages about four to eight of Mr and Mrs Edwin Grove III and Mr and Mrs Harvey Bean. Firemen awaited ruins to cool to confirm survivors and reported the Groves visiting in Boston believed they would have escaped by car if possible.

Safe Driving Day Shows Few Auto Deaths Countywide

Bridgeport and surrounding towns report a largely accident free Safe Driving day with no fatalities. First mishap at 10 A.M. involved a trailer truck backing into a parked auto on Hamilton Street. In Westport two minor crashes occurred with no injuries. Fairfield county sees few mishaps and normal traffic volume as nationwide 150 million participate in the safety lesson.

Polio Suspected in Brook School Boy Case

A 10 year old pupil at Middle Brook School in Trumbull is under medical care at home as a suspected polio case. Superintendent Leon J. Stanne said the illness is not confirmed. the boy is Steven Donan, son of Glidden and Doman of Rocky Ridge Drive Nichols. The Doman helicopter manufacturer is noted in the context.
