Memorial observance links Merton to faith and pacifism
At Sacred Heart University chapel in Stamford a memorial for Thomas Merton drew speakers and attendees who recalled the Trappist monk as a paradox of discipline and openness. James Forest, editor of Fellowship and Catholic Worker writer, framed Merton as a modern John the Baptist whose life reflected God in daily acts. A prayer from Merton and a wilderness aria were performed as part of the tribute.
