Norwegian engineer plans power from Dead Sea tunnel
Albert Hjorth proposes a 87 mile tunnel from the Mediterranean to the Dead Sea to generate electricity for pumping stations irrigation and general use. Water would rise through pipes to the Dead Sea where a plant would produce light and power distributed across the country. Preliminary estimates suggest tens of thousands of horsepower from 20 tons of water per second. The Dead Sea surface would rise modestly and land would be irrigated via parallel canals along the Jordan.
