Bridgeport police chase the so called Phantom Stabber after a 25th victim Estelle Haupler is stabbed near Pequonnock street and Harral avenue. Victim description varies. investigators suspect a pervert, with no clues or consistent suspect.
Ralph C. Keeler of 4443 Main Street died yesterday morning from a self inflicted rifle shot. The 72 year old retired carpenter had shown despondency over health and sleep, but offered no warning of suicide. Mrs Keeler heard a muffled report as she left the room. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 pm from his home with Rev. Graham Baldwin officiating. Interment in Mountain Grove cemetery.

Henry A Holmberg a 35 year old teller at First National Bank pleaded guilty to embezzling funds and was sentenced to 3 to 6 years in state prison. State's Attorney Comley said audit shows losses closer to 46000 with betting losses explaining missing deposits. Holmberg's attorney claimed the shortfall resulted from a past deposit error and betting spree.
Mrs Rosie Svorkel Gaborna of Yonkers was freed after Judge Waldo Marvin dismissed the May 27 1927 murder indictment. Her son Peter Svorkitz tried to take blame, but later recanted, and the coroner held the pair criminally responsible. the boy was sent to reform school.
Roberta Arnold, starring in Sisters at the Shubert, abandoned her role and scolded the Yale crowd after a chorus of boos and carnations showered the stage. Police detained a student, William D English, before release. The disturbance halted the performance and marked a rare university theatre riot.
New York December 7 An Associated Press report states Charles Evans Hughes rejects any candidacy for 1928 as he is “not a candidate in any sense.” The 65 year old former secretary of state reiterates his May pledge that he is too old to run and would not seek the nomination. Despite earlier revival talk led by Charles D Hilles, Hughes’s decision dampens a political surge for his bid. He has served as governor of New York and as associate justice of the Supreme Court, and was secretary of state under Harding and Coolidge.
The Republican National Committee chose Kansas City on the twentieth ballot after a long day of deadlock among seven cities. Detroit and San Francisco contested, with Kansas City securing support from key members including Chairman Butler as ballots favored the Midwest city. The decision followed tense wrangling over party direction and finances amid ongoing debates on presidential nomination strategy.
In Perry Ohio Mrs T Edward West 26 wife of nurseryman confessed to Sheriff Rassmussen that she killed her husband Tuesday night with a hammer and a table leg. She said domestic troubles led to the slaying and that she later drove to Cleveland.
Washington dispatch reports the Sinclair Burns jury tampering contempt case moving forward as DA Peyton Gordon recalls Burns agents shadowing juror Kern. Witness Walling C. Ruddy testifies Day ordered checks on Kern mortgage and any liens or discrepancies. Clark had denied receiving reports on the probe.
President Coolidge presents a 4.26 billion dollar budget for the next year to Congress. He calls for a tax reduction of 225 million only if prosperity continues and warns against actions that would threaten the balanced budget. The plan increases defense funding chiefly for Navy building and housing.
Harris Whittemore estate worth several millions is filed in Naugatuck probate court. The Colonial Trust Co of Waterbury named executor. John P. Elton and Charles J. Berger named appraisers. Widow Justine B. Whittemore receives 260000 plus furniture and personal property. the gold watch from his father goes to Harris Whittemore Jr. a Mary Cassatt painting goes to his sister.
In Mays Landing on December 8, after nearly six hours of tense deliberation the jury in the tale fendaht murder case was ordered kept in the jury room until tomorrow morning. Five women and seven men faced the judge as the court prepared to resume at 9:30 with verdicts anticipated. Patrick Holmdumner identified as the Eng Mah actor Pat Somerset pleaded guilty to being drunk at his own wedding party. He received a suspended sentence of a $20 fine and ten days in jail. Bride Shelby Worrel pleaded not guilty. trial set for December 14.

Joe Nagy nineteen, v n King's Highway Fairfield professional bantamweight, was hurt in Fairfield center last night when a truck loaded with iron pipes passed. A pipe brushed his head, knocking him unconscious into an automobile to St Vincent's hospital. He seemed not seriously hurt but will have x rays to check for broken bones.
Carl F. Blemon, head of the Zoning Appeals Board, urged Fairfield avenue gas station opposition at a public hearing. Siemon, a Masonic Past Master, spoke as a private citizen, saying the board ruled to enforce zoning law barring gas stations within 200 feet. The Grotto case proceeded amid pressure and Masonry claims of local law adherence.
