Late Commodore Benedict Ardent Yachtsman and Greenwich Figure
Commodore Benedict, born 1884 in Somers Westchester County, dies at his Greenwich mansion after a life of Wall Street success mainly in gas stocks and a passion for yachting. He was a close friend of Grover Cleveland, commanded Oneida and Virginia yachts, endowed Greenwich Hospital in 1917, and left three daughters and a large Greenwich estate. The funeral drew prominent figures from New York and national society.
