Early retirement surge reshapes auto industry pension gains
Detroit AP reports that in the first year of added incentives under the 8 pension program, 17,975 workers retired before 65, with 1,836 at $400 monthly. Four automakers created independent funds with a $400 monthly cap for each year of service, leading to a total of 95,746 pensioners and fund balances exceeding $1.7 billion as of month’s start.
