Engineers at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers convention in New York heard Arbal and Donald Th. Black of Garden City forecast rapid naval and air travel advances. They expect airplanes to replace rail for passenger service within ten years, with a night letter system competing with telegraph. An airliner carrying 450 pounds could link New York and Chicago at about 0.01188 cents per mile, plus messenger and postage costs, delivering a 1000 word message for 34 to 42 cents by end of day.
