Bridgeport Youth Denies Attack Charge After Safe Breakin

Bridgeport police say Philip H. Mitchell, 29, an ex convict, denied an Oct. 19 assault on three elderly women at Flora Elm Home. He admitted being in the city visiting his brother. New York police later wound him during an attempted factory robbery. He is held without bail on assault and burglary charges.

Capital Tree Set Up For Washington Christmas Pageant

A 60 foot northern Minnesota white spruce weighs 5000 pounds and was craned into place in Washington for the annual Christmas pageant. A scaffolding platform will be erected tomorrow morning and trimming work is to begin tomorrow afternoon.

Youth Nabbed After Break In At Transportation Offices

Police arrested Ronald Muse, 21, after a midnight break in at Republic Carloading & Distributing and Pacific Atlantic Transportation at 920 Union Avenue. Muse allegedly forced a cabinet safe and office door but yielded no loot. He was held on $10,000 bond on a breaking and entering charge after officers surrounded the buildings and a pistol shot was fired into the air.

Man Admits Killing His Farmer Father in Maine

Harrison C. Coombs confessed to the hammer slaying of his 79-year-old father Charles Coombs on Thanksgiving Day at a Maine farmhouse. Police said the 37-year-old unemployed son was arrested in Manchester and would be returned to Bangor on a murder warrant. a blood-stained hammer was found nearby.

Planner Resigns Fairfield Planning Post

Fairfield town planning director Robert S. Bryan resigns after seven years to join a Hamden consulting firm as chief planning consultant. Charles H. Parks says Bryan would work two days weekly on master plan revision under a per diem 50 dollar fee, opposed by the Board of Selectmen. The move leaves the department short of planners with James Lee vacancy unresolved.

Stevenson declines Ike invitation to NATO Paris summit

Adlai Stevenson refused Eisenhower’s personal invitation to attend the Paris NATO conference citing lack of authority there as the main reason. He said he would be only a consultant unable to influence policy and that unless compelling developments occur he will not attend.
