Star Cephei’s record speed measured by Harvard
Harvard astronomers report RY Cephei traveling through space at about 2.5 million miles per hour 1.10 kilometres per second, the fastest yet known for a star. The star lies in Cepheus, about 2800 light years away, with measurements based on daily photographic work at Harvard Cambridge and observatory stations abroad. This extreme velocity suggests such stars may escape their globular clusters.
