Eastern Airlines to lay off 360 pilots amid shuttle cuts
Eastern Air scheduled for a single custom route cut lays off 360 pilots Friday as it eliminates energy strained shuttle flights. The carrier says the move, tied to a low load factor and fuel shortage, will let it retire Electra aircraft and shift to high fuel efficiency operations. Routes including Newark to Boston and other city pairs would be dropped or replaced with limited service from nearby terminals.
