Wilson R. Burns nineteen a Harding High School 1926 graduate and captain of the basketball team died from shock and injuries after a live limb being lowered from a tree at Washington Park fell and pinned him and Roy Sherman nineteen a companion was seriously hurt Sherman suffered a scalp wound and is expected to recover Burns a Connecticut Agricultural College preparatory student was killed during a summer job accident while two park workers tried to lower the limb. Both were taken to Bridgeport Hospital where Burns died and Sherman remained under treatment. The accident prompted an investigation by Parks Superintendent Henry Cliffe who stated it was the first serious park employee accident.
