Water Company Seeks Right to Increase Rates in Bridgeport

Bridgeport Hydravire company filed with the Public Utilities commission for higher water rates citing a city free service and past losses. Amundsen's Ship Returning to Nome

NOME Alaska Aug 25 Associated Press Captain Roald Amundsen's exploration ship Mauve is at sea off Point Hope north of Kotzebue Sound near the western entrance to the Bering Strait. A radio from the coast guard cutter Bear says favorable sea conditions suggest the voyage back to Nome.

Penfield dies from auto gas poisoning in garage

Arthur E. Penfield a 60 year old of 296 Park Street died in his garage at 291 Harriet Street from carbon monoxide poisoning likely from exhaust gases while repairing his car. Mrs Penfield reported him missing at 1 am and found him unconscious in the garage. Emergency crews and doctors attempted artificial respiration but he died before reaching Bridgeport Hospital. He leaves a wife and a daughter from a former marriage and a Danbury-based father.

William Jennings, a 31 year old volunteer weather observer for 29 years and longtime Bridgeport Hydraulic Company employee, died in Bridgeport Hospital after illness. For decades he recorded rainfall, temperature, humidity and pressure, sharing data with citizens, officials, and the press without seeking recognition.
