Cunard Not Liable in Lusitania Sinking Verdict
NEW YORK Aug 25 The U S Admiralty Court ruled Cunard Steamship company cannot be held liable for the loss of life and property in the Lusitania torpedoing by a German submarine. Judge Julius M Mayer said the sinking was the Imperial German government’s illegal act and dismissed suits seeking nearly 4 million dollars for heirs of those who perished. He warned the United States and its allies will seek reparations in time for such indefensible acts.

Bridgeport Man Shot In Westport Accident
James Russo of 525 East Main Street Bridgeport Jr. was shot in Westport when a .32 caliber revolver belonging to night watchman Michael De Mattio fired through his legs during a late night chat near Connecticut company cars. Russo and Frank Brandego were at the scene. no arrests were reported.

At 8:46 this morning 442 Bridgeport draftees for general military service will entrain for Camp Greentess Lytle Ga. They will report at 7:45 at their boards with final instructions. Relatives will not be shown on the station platform to ease departure confusion. They head to New York then Pullman cars with box lunches, arriving 10:30 p m tomorrow. One objector, Adam Jakubsky 25 of 217 Lewis street, remains in custody after declaring he would not serve.

Boat Pilot Injured in Motor Boat Accident
Joseph Adomantic, 44, of 50 Summer Street, was injured when his trousers were drawn into a fly wheel of a motor boat near Hollister Avenue bridge on the midstream of Tohasen's Creek. Mean Thief Burglarizes Drafted Man's Home On Eve Of Departure
Lee M. Pasquin of 904 Howard Avenue reported his home near Bridgeport burgled on Saturday afternoon or evening. Thieves gained access through an upper window, carried off $160 worth of articles including a typewriter and foodstuffs. Pasquin, bound for Camp Greenleaf, alerted police and Detective Matune, with high confidence of quick justice. Pasquin was a Bridgeport Post staff member and a well known local newspaperman.

Grief Stricken News of France Death in Action
Word reached Miss Marion Hoyle of the death in action of Cristobal Modrigues Midalgo his fiance in an official notice. Hidalgo a native of San Juan and former Remington Arms employee was listed killed in action August 12 and connected to Co. C 8th Infantry. He had lived in the city over a year and left behind Spanish poems reflecting his nature.

Private Pernaitis Wounded in Action In August
Private Charles Pernaitis, 22, of 172 King's Highway, was severely wounded in action August 6, according to a telegram to his parents Mr and Mrs Charles Pernaitis. He belonged to Co 1 9th Infantry and his exact battle position is unclear. He was drafted in April and had been overseas less than a month when wounded. He marched in Paris July 4 and his last letter was July 27. He had worked at Bullard plant and before that Lake Torpedo Boat. Mrs Pernaitis is grief stricken. He previously dropped a letter from a moving train to inform parents he was bound overseas.
