In Mexico City Aug 24 the Catholic episcopate voiced doubt about securing changes to the constitution's religious clauses. It believed deputies in the new Congress are pledged to support Calles' policy and warned that government registration of priests would infringe on papal authority. The bishops would accept priest registration only for administrative purposes.
White Plains N Y August 24 One hundred and thirty relatives receive legacies from the estate of Mrs Virginia Marquand Monroe who died July 11 at Tarrytown The value is estimated at 3 000 000 The Pequot Library Association of Southport Conn is named heir to 55 000 Monroe adopted daughter of Frederick R Marquand built and donated the Pequot Library in 1892 a gift to Southport now housing 44 009 volumes one of Connecticut s largest public libraries
Dorothy Kirk a 21 year old stenographer died after a love affair with Emil Balanesku a 21 year old medical student. Police say she was given quick poisons and narcotics by Balanesku who was questioned further. Autopsy found prolonged chemical intake. Balanesku claims he tried to help her. The affair began after Dorothy traveled from Union, Ghlo to Cleveland. Page Two continues.
A lone bomber threatens Farmers Deposit Savings Bank in Pittsburgh using a note demanding 2000. He detonates a bomb outside the bank, killing himself, injuring a policeman four others, and wounding numerous bank staff and pedestrians. The blast at Fifth avenue and Wood street causes extensive damage and chaos as crowds surge from nearby venues. Police pursue swift arrests as firemen and ambulances struggle to reach victims.
William B. Flanagan, Democratic chairman in the third district, is favored to become town chairman if there is no opposition and if Attorney John A. Cornell maintains control of the city convention. Cornell backs Flanagan, while McNeil and Culman weigh positions. McGuinness plans retirement, and Fred Atwater is named as senatorial candidate in the Twenty-first district with Hogan in the Twenty-second.
Republican primary for delegates to the city convention will have no contest in any district this Friday. In the Sixth district Thomas Tierney recalls a 14 year peace, while in the Eighth district the new GOP club abandoned plans for a delegate fight. Alderman William J Ard seeks renomination in the eighth, facing regular organization opposition led by District Chairman Earl Martin and Mary L Lynch. Two caucuses were held with Senator William A Redden endorsed for renomination in their continued voyage.
Philadelphia Aug 24 AP Lt Briaa K Bettis 17 S A who left Sesqui grounds yesterday morning in an airplane for Selfridge field Michigan is missing. He was last seen west of Lewiston Pa heading toward Cleveland. Airplanes searched from Lewiston west to Cleveland but found no trace. Bettis a noted air racer who set speed records and won the Pulitzer trophy. Two other planes joined the search flying from Camp Anthony Wayne and Selfridge Field to trace the flight path Bettis took yesterday.

New York Aug 24 AP Rudolph Valentino earned about 2 million in his career yet left only 75000 in net estate. Joseph M Schenck executive director of the United States corporation said Valentino’s earning power could be a million a year but his finances were spent freely. He made around two million in his screen career and did no investments.
New York gossip from August 4 reports the estate of Frederick Harrison Baldwin, who died January 29, 1926, valued at $674,328.02 gross and $616,566.95 net. Nephew Mortimer C. Adams Jr. of Fort DuPont Delaware and Fairfield, Connecticut niece Marion A. Odderd each receive half of personal effects and half of the residue, with the residue appraised at $195,592.82 for each. Grandnephew Moreau L. Stoddard of Fairfield receives a temporary $20,000 until age 30. current value of his bequest is $7,212, wife Mrs. Stoddard linked to Greenfield Hill. Stoddards are noted Bridgeport and Fairfield residents. Moreau is a Yale student.
Rep Martin Madden Republican Illinois arrives at White Pine camp as President Coolidge host. He says no tax cuts while foreign war debts remain to be settled. Madden cites administration economy and debt payments as achievements and notes possible reductions only with December 1027 Congress.
SPARTA WI August 24 AP Separated 63 years since they lost each other during the Civil War Thomas Mann eighty three and his wife Naney eighty have been reunited In the meantime Naney has had two husbands and Mann has had another war Manns second wife died several years ago and Mrs Manns third husband died last MarchEnoch Ardens long voyage was just a walk around the block compared with Manns absence from his bride They were married in 1864 Mann enlisted in the Union army serving a hundred days with the 6th Indiana Infantry Discharged he took his bride to a farm near Ironton WI and re enlisted in the 66th Wisconsin Infantry He served until the war ended in 1865 When he got home his wife had left for Indiana Both sought each other for years Without success After some years assuming her husband dead Naney married William Burns of Indianapolis and became mother of four Burns died in 1890 and his widow wed James Tracy of Grand Rapids MI who died five months ago Mann meanwhile gave up the search for his bride and married Mrs Maria Yeung a widow of Onalaska WI They had five children The second Mrs Mann died a year ago Several months ago Mrs Mann asked the Federal Pension bureau to allot the pension of Thomas Mann The bureau notified her that a Thomas Mann was a resident of Sparta and that he was drawing his own pension She wrote Mann and discovered him to be her husband They were reunited at Sparta and attorneys held that no marriage ceremony was necessary This time To keep track of her Mann declared
Four Bridgeport men aged 18 to 27 were killed and three others fatally injured when a car in which they rode failed to turn on Shelton road in Nichols Center and crashed into a tree. The car, owned by Ray Rental Service, was demolished. seven occupants were aboard. Identification of victims began at 1:40 a.m. with William Pekar and others named as Carlo Monturi, Stanley Alleynowicz, Leonard Manleitro, and Tony Rich among the dead or injured. Neighbors and emergency crews rushed to extricate victims. two died on the lawn at the Bixbee home. Authorities, including Mayor F. William Jehrens, coordinated ambulance response from Emergency Hospital.
