Gasoline price cuts spread as war in retail market grows

New York August price reductions in gasoline ripple across the Atlantic seaboard. Major firms led by Standard Oil of New Jersey cut tank wagon prices by one to two cents, bringing the consumer rate to 21 to 23 cents per gallon in several cities, with Buffalo and New York seeing notable drops. Wholesale New York price at 19.2 cents. reductions extend to New Jersey, North and South Carolina, and West Virginia as competition tightens.

Excursion Boat Captain and Mate Are Discharged

Captain Gavagan of the Crescent and Robert Lucia first mate of the Wham were discharged by Mills Steamship and Tugboat Operators after a grounding near Roton Point that left 600 excursionists aboard. Officials cited intoxication during the incident and said the firms are no longer connected with the boats. A rejoicing is planned in New Haven next week.

Representatives Meeting Today in New York War Over Anthracite Ends

August 13 New York A war to prevent suspension of anthracite coal mining opened today by US Coal Commission amid a deadlock between miners union and operators. After conference, operators accepted the union proposal to drop check off of dues if the union drops dues collection via check off for explosive and fuel accounts. Both sides to meet again tomorrow with the coal commission to confirm terms and resume wage negotiations if allowed by law.
