Lightning Burns Wallingford Pair

A severe electrical storm hit Wallingford on Aug. 11 shortly before 3 o clock, injuring two people, flooding cellars and streets, disrupting telephone and power service, and delaying traffic for about half an hour. Mr Kane and Mrs Kane were in their home. Mrs Kane sustained facial and neck injuries with numbness. Mr Kane recovered consciousness soon after. A bolt also struck a garage and a factory smokestack owned by Thomas Thompson, causing minor damage.

Missing Slayer Fails to Return in Norwalk Case

Norwalk police continued a search for Antonio Padula after he allegedly shot laborer Genaro Clementi, 30, in front of 47 Lexington Avenue last Sunday night. Whittemore faces doom at midnight in leap for writ

Baltimore August 11 AP The habeas corpus bid to stave off Whittemore's execution was rejected by Judge Stanton. Attorney Pendleton planned to seek a writ of error or supereminas from Associate Supreme Court Justice Holmes at Beverly Farms to stop the scheduled midnight execution for murder. Governor Ritchie and Attorney General Robinson opposed further writs.

Officer Fires At Alleged Thug In Chase

Special Officer Samuel Corkin fired three shots in the air to capture James Chernick after a man robbed a drunken victim and hurled him from a moving car. Chernick, 29, was caught in Staplea school yard after a multi block chase. John DiFrancesco, 22, was arrested in connection with the assault and robbery, while “Jin Bones” and two others are being sought by detectives. The victim was Michael Dirgo.
