Commission Acts to Add Nine Men on Police Force
Supt. John A. Lyddy told the Board of Police commissioners last night nine more officers are needed to reach 48. The Civil Service commission will certify the first nine names from an eligibility list of 18 patrolman candidates after a 30 day waiting period. The first nine are Raymond E. Larnerd John J. Costello Thomas R. Will Bert Lancia James H. McNally Wilbur F. Barrett Thomas F. Jordan Jr Victor M. Gracer Andrew E. Alexay. The board retired Patrolman Frederick Rosenpenny with a 70 percent pension effective Aug. 18 after service since June 1, 1916. Sgt. Charles Baker was recommended for permanent appointment. The panel recorded a letter praising Supt. Lyddy after the Barnum Festival. Reports on line of duty injuries were filed. Detective John Hines remains off duty since May and the board will check his return. Stop signs were ordered at nine intersections. A widow’s pension was granted to Mrs. Rose Hochheiser.

Bristol Man Held in Probe After Brother Disappears
Adam Kolanek 38 reported his brother John 46 disappeared in Bristol. Police held him on a breach of peace charge in 10,000 bond as detectives pursued bloodstain evidence from a rear porch and Kolanek's car. A doe's claw was mistaken for a tooth. John failed to show for unemployment.

Woman With Umbrella Defeats Maddened Bull in Lebanon

Mrs Rose Stegal 58 used an umbrella to parry and sidestep the creature for several minutes, fending off the attack until help arrived.
