More Teachers Available Than Positions Open
Officials under the State Board of Education expect a larger fall supply of teachers than demand due to expanded training at Yale University and extension courses this year. New state certification rules, effective July 1, raise requirements for new teachers. Bridgeport reports teacher abundance with 62 graduates of the normal school last June securing positions. Approximately 40 high school teachers resigned this year, but no shortage is anticipated. The state Summer School at Yale notes 225 education course registrants this summer, with far fewer vacancies statewide. Many plan to take additional normal school courses next fall. The new law offers temporary certificates after a six week course. completion of two more summer courses yields a permanent certificate.
