Milford Voters Defeat City Charter Plan in Referendum

Milford voters rejected the City Charter referendum by 767 to 460 as the town will stay with its present government. The defeat followed behind a campaign by current office holders and politicians with significant influence from women voters in the First District.

Auto crash on New Haven turnpike injures none

Four occupants escape serious injury after head on collision on the New Haven turnpike near Milford. Regina A. Willame of Hoboken and Grace Williams with Roger Williams were involved as repair crews worked nearby. One car broke through a fence and overturned down an embankment.

Mark Again Drops 2 000 000 for 1

Berlin authorities raised the dollar to two million marks though the official rate was 1 650 000. Demand for dollars and pounds remained brisk but supply was limited as traders anticipated further decline in the mark during the week.

Express Train Kills Two Men At Work In Tracks

An east bound express struck two Greek immigrant workers on the New Haven railroad near Stamford. James Lingos and Buondovelo s were killed, a third man barely escaped as the engine tore past. Conductor Lockwood and Engineer Telford attempted brakes but could not stop in time. The incident disrupted service while officials investigated.

Runaway Horses Kill Mule And Do 1000 Damage

Two frightened horses pulling an ice wagon ran on Knowlton street at 1 30 yesterday. They killed a mule and caused about 1000 in damage to a mobile and nearby property. The mule’s attendant jumped clear as the wagon collided with objects and the horses finally returned to their barn after eluding officers.

Sullivan swims English Channel in seventh attempt

Henry Sullivan of Lowell Massachusetts becomes the first American to swim the English Channel, completing the perilous cross in about 37 hours 44 minutes from Dover to Calais. He faced heavy seas, tides, and fatigue, with a crowd cheering as he reached the Calais Casino.

Arrested Here for Taking Auto Two Months Ago

Two months ago Walter Staxier, 19, of Union Avenue, was asked to drive an automobile to Anthony Delgado at 93 North Washington Avenue. He allegedly took the car to Trenton, collided, and fled before police arrived. He was returned to his home in Springfield under custody yesterday and faces auto theft charges.

Society wedding takes place in Greenwich

A Greenwich society wedding occurred this afternoon at the home of R. Grunhuny Bigelow on Cherry Road. The ceremony was conducted by the pastor of the Pepperin Church, Sorrowton. Girl Struck by Auto Is Critically Injured

A Greenwich boy, Edward A Morrell of Beechwood Avenue, is accused after his car struck eight year old Canfield girl on Beechwood Avenue near Wood Avenue. The injured girl suffers a fractured skull and severe injuries, taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in critical condition. Morrell faces charges of careless driving and operating without a license.

Pleasure Beach rescue after chewing gum near drowning

An 18 year old youth at Pleasure Beach nearly drowned while chewing gum and swallowing water. Five United States Volunteer Life Guards fully dressed rescued him as he weakened, reviving him with stimulants and allowing him to go home. Guards Sym Cotter, W. B. Winner, J. Rescue at Milford Beach as canoe overturns

Two youths narrowly escaped drowning when their canoe capsized off Seis Beach in rough water. A passing row boat reached the scene and saved the woman and man, who declined to reveal names or addresses. The canoe was recovered and returned to its owner.
