Thieves fired on officers at a housing project near Father Panik Village last night. Police arrested Fred Blackman 27 of 89 Stan Avenue after a search by Patrolmen Cane and Gibbs. Sgt. Bridgeport police arrested 34 year old Russell J. Senfield of Stratford after a lengthy undercover investigation into thefts from Carpenter Steel company yards in Seaview avenue. About 13,990 pounds of pure nickel pellets and 4,000 pounds of copper inserts were stolen over seven months starting January. A small pickup with nickel pieces was seized. copper and aluminum were recovered from junk yards for $40,009. Investigators seek others involved. officials say charges pending.
