The torpedo boat destroyer Pruitt was launched in Sath Maine to honor the state centennial and William King’s governorship. Named after Corporal Joan H. Pruitt of Phoenix Arizona, who died in France after single-handedly disabling machine guns and taking prisoners. Christened by Mrs George Pruitt with her band and Rev William Scar of Phoenix. The British battle cruiser Cam prian arrived from Bermuda to join the celebration.

Robert Stanshire, a boy aged years, remained alive for 24 hours on a pulmot or machine at the city hospice after an ear ailment required surgery. Doctors reported this may be the longest continuous use of a pulmotor on a patient.

DHRLIN Aug 2 The Polish resistance reports arrival of the first contingent of new volunteer force at the front as Polish retreat slows near Pissa and the Néro near Novroren. Bolshevik infantry advances are aided in the center by Budenny’s cavalry while Poles gain some success south of Brody after heavy fighting. Retreat from Pomsty Duluusk Ostrasc and Skobel is fully blocked.
A man was slashed on Abeneous Street during a disturbance involving a Negro wielding a knife. He was rushed to the emergency hospital where Dr Maxwell treated seven stitches. Police arrested several suspects and the scene drew rapid response from officers on Congress Street.
August 2 report from Tavin says Glusep old of Allingtown, 30, was arrested for stealing cloth and thread worth about 50 000 from a freight cart in Larmington. He faced charges with bond set at 10 000. The incident followed a blaze that damaged buildings in Thomaston, including the Williams and Tohrean structure, with Webster building nearby sustaining damage and total losses estimated at 70 000.
