Insurgent conservative group led by Dr Ellwood Weise wins key seats at the 16th annual Connecticut State Medical Society meeting in Stratford. A resolution disapproves the Connecticut Medical Service CMS contract and calls for withdrawal, with stricter controls on future contracts. About 120 delegates represented 3181 doctors statewide as disputes over CMS benefits and income thresholds continue.

Father and son tied to alien smuggling ring nabbed in New Haven

Vincenzo Torme and his son Doincic Torme, Italian and naturalized citizen, were arrested after 18 months of inquiry into a ring that allegedly smuggled aliens into the United States for 800 to 1200 dollars. The Newport News based operation moved aliens to New York and other cities. more arrests expected. Both men arraigned and held on 2500 dollar bonds. The elder Torme was previously arrested in New York on a similar charge.

Military pay boost approved by Senate in 376 million first year

The Senate approved a general Army Navy Air Force pay raise totaling 376 million dollars for the first year of operation with a quick vote. GE plant strike continues with picket lines at dawn

Army to Build Nike Play Sites in Connecticut Areas

Rogers Bennett and Meade of Seymour Conn were named apparent low bidders to construct 13 Nike battery athletic courts in Bridgeport and Hartford defense zones. Father minister arrested for abusing children and bus safety debate

Police report a father of two, Paul Angelico, 23, 340 Bostwick Avenue, was arrested on a charge of risk of injury to children after a belt and buckle left severe bruises on a two year old daughter.
