Grace forecasts steady steel demand despite uncertain dividends
Mr Grace cautioned against definite dividend timing after today's meeting while noting directors cannot predict resumption. First quarter operations averaged 79.8 percent efficiency versus 74.5 percent prior quarter and 87.2 percent a year earlier. Orders on hand totaled 45.79 million, down from 49.91 million last December and 59.39 million in March 1926. Grace expects no sharp recession if output holds, foresees minor price adjustments on special products, and believes wage schedules may remain stable. He also noted European steel cartel improving foreign trade without harming U S. steel trade.
