Aelena Hill Weed 83 a Norwalk native and former Democratic mayoral candidate died in San Jacinto California after a prolonged illness. She helped lead the Fearless Forty in the 1941 Battle of Du Pont Circle and sued the government over displacement. Survived by two daughters and a son. Funeral plans incomplete.

Lawyer Knight Family Slain in Greenwood Village Home

Denver police arrest 28 year old David Early, an acquaintance, after he backed a car from the Knights home in Greenwood Village where Merrill A Knight, his wife Regina and daughter Karen were found bound and shot to death. Sheriff Foster said the suspect may be a relative and that the killings appeared to occur after a waiting ambush with a small caliber rifle.

Peterson Reelected Stratford GOP Head at Park Meeting

Oscar Peterson Jr was unanimously reelected as chairman of the Stratford Republican Town committee at Boothe Memorial Park. He has led the party for more than 15 years except for a three month gap in 1956. Also reelected were Mrs Florence Abercrombie vice chair Harold C Lovell Jr treasurer and Mrs Helen Jaenicke secretary. The district chairmen were named as an executive board to act between meetings and to prepare the agenda.

Governor signs two madr bills in anti recession program

Hartford April 25 AP Governor Ribicoff signed two major anti recession measures from the special session of the General Assembly The Republican bills provide 4 million dollars for low cost housing for the aged and 300 million for short term financing of state highway projects under the federal reimbursement program He called the highway measures a partial program noting the assembly failed to adopt the entire plan and warned of delays in construction

In a night session the Senate defeated the first two Knowland amendments to a labor pension bill. Aimed at secret ballot elections for union officers and trusteeships, the amendments failed 53-37 and 53-35, with a fourth defeated 52-35. No mood to act now on broad labor reform.

Television football star Herman Hickman dies at 46

Herman Hickman, famed football coach turned TV radio commentator, died at Providence hospital after a March 28 admission from a gastric ulcer. He stood 6 feet 10 inches and weighed around 300 pounds, and left coaching in 1952 for public relations and sports broadcasting duties. His wife and mother were at his bedside.
