Truman backs Harriman stand in job dispute
President Truman defended Harriman's refusal to quit as foreign aid chief while seeking the Democratic nomination. He criticized Rep Richards for demanding Harriman resign or quit the race, arguing no conflict exists between Harriman's official duties and his candidacy unless Richards' political role clashes with Congress. Harriman stated he will not resign or withdraw from the campaign.
