Stamford April 20 Army sergeant M Sgt. Robert B. Thomas 45 and his 12 year old daughter Barbara flying from Red Bank New Jersey to Fairfield narrowly escaped injury when their small plane landed in Cummings Park and struck a tree The pair were en route to Bridgeport Municipal to drop Barbara with relatives Mr and Mrs Allen Hamilton of Winnipeg Drive Fairfield The incident prompted no injuries and police investigated the mishap
A single engine airplane buzzed the Connecticut turnpike near a toll plaza in Westport. Harold Chipson, 34, of Newark New Jersey, landed after engine trouble and walked away unhurt asking directions to New Jersey. A wingtip struck a utility pole but no charges were filed.

Danbury April 20 a 23 year old man was killed when a support wire he was stringing through a tree crossed an electrical line and shocked him causing him to fall. John Flayer Woodruff McKay of Old Germantown Road was taken to Danbury Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival from a broken neck. His mother Mrs Howard McKay notified State Police. McKay, a Schlumberger Well Survey researcher, was a Danbury native and Danbury High School graduate who served in the Korean War. Surviving besides his mother is a sister Mrs Bennett Kellogg of Bethel. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hull Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery.

Louis Marrero, 24, a father of two, surrendered after a shootout at St. Joachim's convent and school in Trenton Nova Scotia. He admitted the shotgun attack and said he harbored a grudge against the Roman Catholic Church. A bystander was wounded during the hour long confrontation with police.
John Woodcock of Ridgefield, co owner of Muir and Woodcock, said the planting of thousands of trees shrubs and vines along the Connecticut turnpike from Fairfield to the Housatonic river should begin this week. He expects the state contract to arrive soon and plans to put 36 or 40 men to work the day after.
Seymour April 20 AP Police said a man fell 20 feet to Route 8 when hit by a New Haven freight train on a rail trestle. Shelby's Cobb, 38, of Ansonia, was taken to Grace-New Haven Hospital in general injuries and listed on the danger list. Companion Joseph Jones, also of Ansonia, said they had been collecting scrap metal on the trestle when the train appeared. Cobb started to run along the tracks but was struck before he could reach safety.
Southbury April 26 A former Bridgeport man saved his two year old son from drowning today in the Pamperaug river Eugene Simmons wandered from his back yard near the river while his father worked nearby Mr Simmons later spotted the boy floating face down and pulled him out Firemen revived the child with a resusciator and after a medical check he was taken home The Simmons family came here last fall from Bridgeport where they lived at 1589 Fairfield avenue Mr Simmons was a salesman.
In Newton Massachusetts two women both over 80 died when a driverless car rolled down a hill and submerged in Crystal Lake. Police and bystanders, including Harvard Law School assistant dean William Bruce, tried to rescue them but could not open the car doors. The nursing home owner, Mrs Kenneth Watson, had briefly left to fetch coal.
