A series of tornadoes and line squalls across six Central Illinois counties killed more than 50 people, injured about 200, and left hundreds homeless. Fatalities were reported in Buffalo Hart, Cornland, Cheatnut, Mount Pulaski, Kafer, and nearby communities as schools were wrecked and lines of communication were cut for hours.

48000 Bottles of Ale Seized by Doolan and Federal Force
A carload of nine per cent Canadian ale containing 48000 bottles valued about 35600 was seized yesterday at noon by prohibition officers under Chief Edward B Doolan as it lay in the East Bridgeport freight yard awaiting shipment to New York. No arrests were made. The consignment was from Windsor Ontario to the Concordia Gas Co. care of Koppers Construction Co West Farms Bronx N. Y. Officers were Chief Doolan Prohibition Agents Manion Keene and Mailroad Police Officers Nadel Bishop Maneffield. A guard was placed over the car overnight watched from East Bridgeport to Union Square. The ale will be trucked today to the Post Office building. Bottles sold 73 cents to 1 each.
