Million Submerge in Ganges in Ancient Hindu Ceremony
In Hardwar India April 16 nearly one million Hindu faithful submerged in the sacred Ganges during a two day Kumbh Mela rite led by Naga Sadhus and holy men. The event featured swamis atop an elephant processions and thousands of mystics along the riverbank. Officials spent about one million dollars to avert stampede risks in 1950s past events and observers warned this may be the last grand scale observance in the traditional style with a government plan to ban nude processions and elephants in future processions.
