San Francisco AP report says Teamster President James R. Hoffa will stay in the city through Tuesday to visit his seriously ill wife Josephine at the University of California Medical Center. She has been hospitalized since March 18 for a heart condition. Hoffa flew in after being granted temporary leave from Lewisburg federal prison following his wife’s doctor’s urging.
Detroit AP General Motors recalls 23,300 Vega minicars produced before the United Auto Workers strike. Defects include choke jam risk, fuel spillage, rear seat bracket rubbing, under body clearance, and wiper transmission nut cross threading. Repairs at dealers at no cost to owners. fixes apply to cars built before December.
John R. Pardue Jr. remained in critical condition in Park City hospital after three gunshot wounds he received Thursday morning while attempting to escape from a Federal court cell in Danbury. Pardue, on trial for bombings and a bank robbery, allegedly used a sawed off shotgun smuggled by his wife Nancy to threaten U.S. Marshals. one marshal fired, wounding Pardue three times.

A tip led Bridgeport police to pursue a Hertz rental truck at 3:25 am on Pennsylvania avenue. The truck struck a patrol car during the chase through East Side streets into Stratford. Arrested were Robert A Arconoli and Glen Miller on aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft charges.

Phillip Crosby, 38, of 253 Davenport Street, was bruised when his car struck a guard rail on the Connecticut turnpike near the Route 25 Expressway westbound entrance at 5 10 am Sunday. He was treated at Park City hospital and released. Crosby was arrested for driving with a suspended license and failure to drive in the established lane, but released on his own recognizance.
