Mill Destroyed by Second Fire in Five Months
Westport residents witnessed a second destructive blaze at the former Compo mill in five months. The fire, caused by unknown origins, consumed the ruined structure where Mrs. Watfare had died after the fall fire. Firefighters battled for hours while a damaged Compo hook and ladder truck was stranded and later towed out. No insurance covered the building, and a new Dorr company plan aims to erect a fireproof one story facility on the site.
