British airmen set highest emergency parachute jump record
London April 10 AP The Air Ministry reported two British airmen made the highest emergency parachute jump to 10 1 2 miles from a crippled Canberra win jet bomber during high altitude testing over eastern England. Flight Lt J E De Salis, Australian, and navigator P H Lane returned to duty, none the worse for the record leap. The prior record stood at 49 990 feet set by Nikolai Nikitin of Russia last August.

Truck Strike Looms Over New England Truckers
Union and management in Massachusetts Rhode Island and Connecticut remain far apart as a 13 000 truck drivers and helpers brace for a strike set to begin Friday at midnight.
