In Frankfurt on April 7 a mob violence erupted as colored French troops fired on civilians at Schillerplatz, killing a man and a child and injuring many others. By evening, order returned with streets patrolled and a curfew in effect amid rumors that Allied pressure would force evacuations.
City auditors and officials debate a 73000 deficit tied to education funding. Board of Education claims part of the money was turned to a miscellaneous account and hopes to recover it before it’s spent, while Apportionment officials say the funds were allocated for various city needs.
Charges of immorality against a female arrestee led Patrolman Martin Griffin to resign and Patrolman Clifton Gorgas to a suspension as the Police board met in executive session. Griffin admitted guilt. Gorgas denied it and faced trial April 19. Gorgas testified Griffin arranged meetings with the woman near East Main Street and Barnum Avenue while Gorgas performed duty.
Switching crews in the Kansas City Southern yards and additional yards in the region walked out tonight in solidarity with a broader strike. The stoppage affected rail operations across key facilities, with workers insisting on better pay and working conditions amid ongoing labor action.
Alexander Key of the First Presbyterian Church reviews dire global needs in a talk before the Interchurch World Movement at Park Street church. He notes half the world cannot read, most of Latin texts are non Christian, and vast populations lack basic medicine and sanitation. Hospitals are overburdened. Orientals in the United States number about 100 000 Japanese and 8 000 Chinese residents. He urges coordinated Christian outreach and hospital expansion to reach these peoples.
The gunboat Isle De Luzon, formerly the Spanish battleship and prize Cuba, will be rebuilt at the Hitchcok Gas Engine pier after purchase by Sloan Danenhower’s Co. for $300,000. Built 1897 in England, she was burned and salvaged, later rebuilt at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and now awaits overhaul by Engineer J. F. Hamilton. Two 1,000 horsepower oil burners and extensive repairs are planned, with work beginning soon and extending about two months before repainting.
Washington April debate opens on universal military training as senators weigh postponement and possible substitute. Leaders push a Friday vote to end the war and consider voluntary training, with Wadsworth arguing for a strong regular army and opponents warning of untrained troops and fiscal risk.

John Korna of Center Street Meriden sustained a depressed fracture of the skull from a fall down cellar stairs at the River Ribbon garage. He was treated by Dr J A Maxwell at Emarganer Hospital and taken to St Vincent's Hospital in serious condition.
Investigation by the department of justice disclosed 800 alleged draft evaders in Michigan. Names and records have been placed in the hands of the U S district attorney Whinnang and personal arrests will follow, it was stated.

Nellie Hickes aged 24 of 34 Richardson Street and Marion Kehlin Sr of 186 State Street suffered possible internal injuries after a jitney struck a trolley car on Denver Street. Both were rushed to Tamergeney hospital by Dr. Chive J. Grourk. Miss Tuckey was sent to St Vincent's for an X-ray to assess injuries.
Paris reports France consulted its allies before occupying Rhine cities. Premier Miller’s statement to ambassadors cites Germany’s violations of Versailles and Article 44, and Goeppert’s admissions about Reichswehr movements in the Ruhr. France warned allies of essential action to safeguard security and vows evacuation once German troops withdraw.
An unauthorized railroad workers strike that began in Chicago’s switching district has spread to 24 railroads and left more than 10,000 workers in Chicago unemployed directly or indirectly. Some 10,000 union rail laborers in Chicago and hundreds more in Buffalo and Champaign are on strike, with hundreds of Chicago packinghouse workers also affected by livestock shortages. The movement challenges labor leadership as railroad officers brace for continued disruption.
Nevada attorney general plans to file suit next week to set aside Mary Pickford's divorce decree alleging lack of jurisdiction and collusion or conspiracy in the case. Deputy AG Robert Richards says examination and records in the Pickford case support the claim. Attorney General Lawler will file the suit about mid next week.

Berlin April 1 The labor organizations from the general strike during the Kapp revolt and representatives of the Right Socialist and Independent parties met yesterday and adopted demands to the government. They call for withdrawal of regular troops from the neutral zone and upkeep of order by local defense bodies. They urge action south of the Rohr region and the formation of a defense body outside the neutral zone with withdrawal of regulars. Punishment of untrustworthy elements is also demanded.
