Mrs. John F Kennedy urged the nation to choose love over hate following Dr. Martin Luther King Jr death. She expressed sorrow for Mrs King and her children and prayed that King s sacrifice would expand love and justice for those he led.

James Tisdale of Bridgeport urged Governor Dempsey to name the new Route 25 Expressway the Martin Luther King Memorial Expressway. Tisdale noted King’s Connecticut ties and early work in tobacco fields, and urged honoring him upon Route 25’s completion.
Reported curfews in Detroit Memphis and Washington as 800 soldiers deployed in Detroit and a 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew imposed in Memphis after Dr King’s assassination sparked riots. Carmichael urged armed black Americans to seek vengeance in a Washington briefing. Harlem stores looted as 125th Street burned in New York City.
Mrs King flew to Memphis to claim Martin Luther King Jr.’s body chartered by Senator Kennedy.
