Washington April 4 Senate Finance committee restored revenue from telegraph and telephone message taxes as a step toward covering an estimated $75 million revenue deficit in the House bill. President Coolidge had opposed new levies except to shift tax burden to better able classes. The message taxes are estimated to yield about $34 million annually, after repeal by the House.

A gang of armed bandits held up the First National Bank of Bellmore noon today. They forced the assistant cashier and a clerk to the cellar and killed Ernest L. Whitman a Patchogue bond salesman who appeared at the doorway as they fled with $6000. Nassau County police formed posses and secured the escape route as suspects fled toward the outskirts. Mary Umbhauer, the assistant cashier, described the robbery and the attempted alarm before the men forced her to sit in a chair.
