Ill-Fated Wrangel Island Hunters to Return Home
Washington April 2 remain ing members of the ill fated hunt expedition to Wrangel Island in 1928 will be returned to their homes near Nome next month on the coast guard cutter Bear. A dozen Fakinos including two women and five children comprise the party. The announcement from coast guard headquarters may mark the final act in a drama begun in 1923 when Charlies H Wells was hired to take native fox hunters to Wrangel. They were stranded on the island a year before being taken off by the Soviet vessel Red October and moved to Vladivostok where Wells died of pneumonia.
