Burglar gang failed to steal a safe at Logan Brothers store on Harral Avenue and Pequonnock Street last midnight. Patrolman Charles H. Payden later caught one suspect, Jerry Curlie of New York, at East Main and Nichols Street. Two others escaped as witnesses saw them exit a car before police arrived. a third man described and detained at the Second Precinct.
At Stamford on March 1 AP reports Hazel Barnes died almost instantly when a car carrying four employees of the Schick Safety Razor company from Sound Beach left the road near the factory and hit two trees. Driver Frederick G Strobel of Stamford, owned by Col Jacob Schick, survived with two others uninjured. Strobel faces a manslaughter charge pending a coroner's hearing.
Passengers Joe Peorter and pilot David Edward Nelson were aboard a Navy plane that crashed this afternoon near Moline, Florida. Peorter was killed and Nelson seriously injured. Both men were aviation machinist mates.
In a tax suit filed in Los Angeles, J F White of Tampes Mexico was alleged to have promised Hlale White $100,000 for each child born from their marriage. The government and Ammetx Corp seek to recover taxes claiming White earned personal income. The attorney said Ammetx existed to fulfill the promise with assets valued at about $204,900 turned over to the corporation. The case was heard under injunction.
Eight deaconesses from the School of Christian Workers visited the Hungarian church in Philadelphia. The group, including Irene Bomar and Vilma Kalassay, attended afternoon services followed by a banquet in the evening.
Warrington dispatch from March 31 reports the destroyer Pillabury hea ben ordered from Shanghai toward Taungtaa a port about 40 miles north of the city at the request of the American officer in charge. Admiral C Widianw of the Asiatic squadron conveyed the order to the Navy Department with no further details of recent happenings in China.
