Court Allows Union Official to Use Chosen Name Lavit
Simon Letchwitsky, born in 1885 in Russia, was granted the name Lavit by Superior Court Judge Howard J. Curtis so he could pursue employment and business opportunities. He explained the name hindered his career as Lavit now serves as a Machinists' union agent and he previously ran a Bridgeport furnishings store. A Devon lecture note mentions Prof William Starr Meyers of Princeton discussing Current History to aid the Visiting Nurse association. Horace Ruland plans to enter the auto tire business and open a Four Corners shop.
