A Monday night Yuletide bingo at Church of the Assumption raised funds for candy and Christmas packages for parish children. The Board of Apportionment and Taxation appropriated 102698.12 for city departments until the full budget takes effect. Blazing Fire Damages Newtown House. $2,000 Loss
Fire of unknown origin damaged J Arthur Berkshire's 12 room Newtown house at 7 am. Fire Marshal Walter Glover said flames started in a first floor clothes closet and spread to a second floor closet. Daniel O Connor an 18 year old of Grassy Plain street Bethel and Brooklyn NY was given a 90 day suspended jail term and placed on probation by Judge Robert L Sullivan in Town court. He faced charges of stealing articles from a car at Medlicott dance hall Chestnut Land district on Nov 1 and was arrested Nov 2. His mother Virginia O Connor pleaded guilty to theft at a special session Nov 6 and received an 8 day jail sentence. The case was reopened due to the youth s condition. A 50 fine was added. Leo Rosato 55 of Gaylordsville was fined 5 for causing a fire without a permit. Francia J Clark 28 of Wingdale NY forfeited an 850 bond for reckless driving. He was arrested Oct 17 by State Patrolman Louis Stefanek.
