Garrison Wins Door Prize at Bridgeport Mill Event

James C. Garrison won the electric blanket door prize at Doyle Loves Bridgeport Mill during the first annual Appreciation Day. Murray Cox WPAA Farm Director hosted a live radio broadcast from the feed mill.

Alvord Man Electrocuted at Rock Crusher

Richard Leonard Stockton 41 of Alvord died after grasping a steel cable touched by a high voltage line at the Texas Industries Plant between Bridgeport and Chico. Funeral services were held in Alvord with wife Sheila and 8 children surviving.

Azle Hornets overwhelm Bridgeport with third-quarter surge

Azle’s Hornets exploded for three touchdowns in the third period to surge past Bridgeport 34-8 in a non-conference game. Bridgeport led early, scoring late in the first quarter on a 45-yard run by Jim Porter, with Charles Deaton adding the two-point conversion, as both teams traded blows before Azle pulled away after halftime.

Azle defeated Bridgeport 33 to 8 as Larry Barnes and Phillip Stillwell connected on multiple TD passes and runs. Stillwell had a 53 yard reception on the opening scoring drive, with Roddy Marr and Sherrell Green adding big plays. The loss droped Bridgeport to 1 1 and Azle set up a Saturday game against Henrietta.

Fort Worth Men in Harris Hospital After Surgeries

Mayor George Harwood, recuperating after surgery at Harris Hospital, is listed as doing fine though release date is unclear. Melvin Hustines, who suffered a Sunday stroke, remains in Harris Hospital with condition and future surgery uncertain. reports say he is doing all right. Miss Sue Cooper of Bowie visited the Index office Thursday.

Farm Bureau Sets Policy Meeting in Wise County

Wise County Farm Bureau members are urged to attend a policy development meeting on September 23 1963 at the Sheriff's Posse Grounds Woman's Building. The session begins at 7 30 p m with a forum for members to shape grassroots policy and defend ideas under debate. A tragic accident occurred September 14 when Mrs T O Rogers 52 of 1104 Hovey Street was struck by a 1952 Chevrolet driven by Charles A Reynolds 17 after he and his passenger Miss Carolyn Johnson 15 witnessed the woman cross Lid 4 Bypass. The body was recovered 135 feet from impact.

Lions Hear Talk by Ed McKay at Luncheon

Ed McKay assistant legislative director of the Texas Farm Bureau spoke at the Lions Club luncheon. He warned of national drift toward socialism and urged a return to government led by men. Owen Miller introduced Wise County Farm Bureau President Dean Padfield who introduced the speaker.
