Baucoms Return to Louisiana After Katrina Damage

Louisiana residents and former Bridgeport residents Jennifer Haney Vicks and Ronnie Baucom return to survey home damage after Hurricane Katrina. Their house remained standing and dry with minor siding loss, while neighbors reported greater destruction. Ronnie’s work plant in Venice was inaccessible during martial law, delaying their return.

United Way boosts Katrina relief with $10000 gift

United Way of Wise County donated $10,000 from its emergency funds to Katrina victims via Wise Area Relief Mission. The kickoff for the 2005 2006 campaign at the Decatur Civic Center drew 164 guests as organizers aimed for a $275000 goal, well above historic levels.

Pacesetters Drive Promising Campaign Funds Total

One paid employee, the rest are voluntary. Ten percent funds go to administration, so organizations receive 90 percent directly. With 106 Pacesetter participants and various fund-raisers, the campaign money looks very promising. Pacesetters pledge $100 or more before kickoff, and the total reflects strong support.

Bridgeport High School Broadcast Journalism Back On Cable 19

Bridgeport High School's Broadcast Journalism class returns for the 2005-2006 year producing two programs on cable channel 19. One offers a replay of Friday football with a halftime interview of Coach Danny Henson and student commentary, airing Saturday mornings. The other, 15 minute Focus, mixes news and entertainment. last year entertainment included students eating food off the ground. Students design and run the weekly show, with ideas from the class, and funding is sought to buy a new amplifier as the show remains in development.

City cites study. Bridgeport council takes no action

Bridgeport officials reviewed a sewer and water rates study by Carolyn Marshall CPA on September 6 but did not adopt any rate increases. The report outlined options to move the Sewer and Water Fund from a deficit to a balanced budget as city employees had long requested a study.
