Mayor Padfield Resigns Amid City Financial Troubles

Brid geport mayor Dean Padfield announced his resignation effective this week due to health reasons amid ongoing city financial problems and a dispute with the council. He noted the city ran out of money after five months and said bills could not be paid. Padfield was elected in April 1972, defeating long-time official George Harwood.

Baptists Launch Fund Campaign For New Bridgeport Building

The First Baptist Church of Bridgeport started a four week Chest of Joash fund drive on September 9 seeking 17 000 to reach one third of the total building cost for an educational facility to seat 450 in Bible study and church activities. Proceeds so far exceed 75 000. The old building will be remodeled for youth activities after construction. A special service is planned for September.

Artist Ronald Thomason to Demonstrate at Bridgeport Club

Weatherford artist Ronald Thomason will visit Bridgeport for an Art Club demonstration tonight at 7 30 in the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Admission is 1.00 for members 1 50 for non members. Thomason works in oils watercolors and egg tempera and is described as a traditionalist.

Courses include Introduction to Sociology Intermediate Typing Beginning Typing First Semester Freshman English World Literature General Psychology Business Law Principles of American Government for Veterans GI Bills in effect. Tuition is reasonable.

Council Rejects Offer For City Power System

The city council voted Monday night to reject Texas Power and Light Companys offer of 1.5 million dollars to purchase the municipally owned electric distribution system. TP&L required unanimous consent and faced broad local opposition voiced by citizens and a councilor who cited community leaders who know what is best.
