Autumn Reflections and a 25 Year Marriage

Trail Ride Planned at Runaway Bay

About 50 area riding clubs are invited to a Trail Ride and Camp Out at Runaway Bay September 21 and 22. The drive starts 2 p.m. Saturday at Wizard Wells, 10 miles west of Runaway Bay, ends at Runaway Bay camp grounds. Activities include a Western barbecue, poolside dance, Play Day with horseback games, potato races, and trophies. Thirty three ranchettes will be offered for sale during the weekend on a first come basis.

Bridgeport C of C Directors Meet September 10

Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce directors meet at 11 30 A M at the Minute Coffee Shop. They plan to host the Texas Automobile Dealers Association on October 6 and form a welcoming committee with refreshments. An area liaison meeting is set for September 17 at Runaway Bay with a boat trip to Sid Richardson Boy Scout Ranch and dinner at the Runaway Bay Yacht Club. The group supports forming a Junior Chamber of Commerce and sponsoring an April farmers banquet in the Upper West Fork Soil Conservation District. A Rattlesnake Hunt was discussed with Dr Sipes tasked to study feasibility and report later.

Robert Jackson Killed in Head-On Truck Collision

Robert D. Jackson, 21, of Bridgeport, died in a head-on collision between two loaded sand and gravel trucks on State Highway 114 west of Roanoke about 3:30 p.m. The wreckage blocked the highway for almost three hours. He is survived by parents Floyd Jackson and family and a brother. Funeral services were held Monday at Hawkins Funeral Chapel, with burial in Bridgeport Cemetery.

Blaze razes Smith home in Bridgeport morning fire

Flames engulfed the home of Mr and Mrs John E Smith on Weatherford Road outside Bridgeport. Neighbors called Bridgeport Fire Department at 9 00 a m as Johnnie Smith rushed from the Min ute Coffee Shop after dropping his wife off at work. Fire crews from Bridgeport Decatur Chico and Paradise fought the massive blaze with several trucks and additional aid.

School Board Approves Bus Loan and Budget Hearing Set

The September 9 1968 meeting approved a 6352 loan from First National Bank of Bridgeport to buy a new district bus. The 1968-69 budget hearing was scheduled for September 23 at the high school. Audit contract awarded to Nayland F. Smith and census work to Betty Vaught.

QB Club Plans Bleacher Repair at Bullie Stadium

The Bridgeport Quarterback Club will repair bleachers at Bullie Stadium. Members and fans are invited to meet Saturday at 1 00 p.m. Plans include a Friday 6 00 p.m. Field House gathering to wish the home team good luck before traveling to Springtown to face the Porcupines. Caravans depart from the school parking lot at 7 00 p.m.
