David Cobb, hospitalized after a scrimmage injury with Millsap on August 25, received the Green Helmet Award Monday. He was hospitalized with kidney loss from the injury, and teammates presented the ward with the honor on September 4.
Three major events mark Wise County oil history on October 9 for the 25th anniversary of the first commercial well. A marker near the Manning well west of Chico opens at 11 a.m., followed by a courthouse marker for C. V. Terrell at 3 p.m., and a third marker at 3:30 p.m. in Alvord honoring Earnest O. Thompson. The Wise County Roughneck Club hosts a noon lunch at Bridgeport Airport with dignitaries from oil and gas firms and political figures. planes arrive from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Bridgeport school leaders discuss a possible donation of eight lots on Sandwin Street block 10 and twenty seven lots on Lawdwin block 9 subject to appraisal. Henry Klepak proposes the gift to benefit the district citing prior donations including sixteen lots. The board also buys a 100 by 135 foot lot for 1500 and approves bond actions and a 15 cent hourly raise for William Day.
Fall brings a tough season as the Bulls aim to defend their district title under new head coach Gayle Miller who previously coached basketball and served as an assistant on the football staff.
City officials discussed priorities to cover upcoming expenses including a new pickup for Water and Sewer, street paving near the junior high, and another police car. A special session may be held if bids and financing information arrive before the next regular meeting.
The Optimists Pee Wee football coaches will meet at 8 30 a m Saturday September 7. Uniforms will be issued at 10 a m Saturday at the old junior high building due to a time change.
Nora Bishop known for Runaway Bay News joins Index as advertising department member and will write the Runaway Bay column on alternate weeks. Fellow reporter Coy Lou Bilby continues coverage of resort community events as Nora returns to Runaway Bay as a full time resident and staffer.
The Bridgeport Public Schools schedule a budget hearing at 7 30 p m on Monday September 11 at the old junior high. Citizens are urged to attend.
