Wise County Hospital District Bill Heads to Governor

A bill to authorize creation of a Wise County hospital district within Commissioners Precinct One passed the Senate on May 22 and, with Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce amendments, returns to the House for concurrence before awaiting the governor's signature.

Cindy Ford Teaches Swimming at City Pool

Parents may find Cindy Ford at the city pool on Friday June 6 at 10 a.m. for information. Beginners and advanced beginners can join starting June 9 for a two week course priced at 10 dollars.

Peggy's Shoe Store at 913 Hassell is sold to Mrs. Wilma White and will be renamed Wilma's Shoe Store. Peggy Womack retires from the business.

Diplomas Awarded Sixty-Four Seniors At Bridgeport High

Sixty four seniors received diplomas Tuesday night in Bridgeport High School commencement. Dr E V Huffstutler of NTSU praised today youth as the best crop produced in this country. Salutatory Cathy Briscoe and valedictory Gary Reed led the exercises with pledges to excellence. Diplomas were presented by Superintendent A E Greer Principal Jack Hall and Dr D C Sipes. Special music by Ed Miller and Elaine Wester. Five teachers received service pins for long service.

Bridgeport Lions Begin Summer Baseball Program

Fifteen teams and about two hundred boys join the Bridgeport and Chico Lions Club Summer Baseball Program. Pee Wee, Little League, and Pony League teams from Bridgeport, Paradise, Chico, Springtown, Decatur, and Alvord prepare for June 2 play at Bridgeport and Chico parks. Commissioner Rev. Joe Mosley leads with D. E. Jones as director and co managers Bill Arrington, Donald Roberts, and Sonny Read steering the Mets.

Local Boys Injured In One-Car Accident

Danny Gilreath and Bobby Fagg both 18 escaped serious injury after a single car crash between Paradise and Spring town Saturday night. Bobby lost control of a 1967 Chevrolet when a back tire blew out, sending the vehicle into the bridge railing and down a hill. Both youths were hospitalized and released. Bobby suffered bruises and abrasions while Danny has whiplash. Both are Bridgeport High School graduates of 1969.
