Around 7 30 pm in Runaway Bay a tornado struck the Texaco Station tearing off the awning. Mike Sappington watched as small twisters damaged trees and nearby buildings while hail covered the area. Residents described multiple twisters touching down in different parts of the resort community.
Bridgeport Chief Walter Dale underwent a six hour operation at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth to relieve collapsed veins in both legs. He entered the hospital Sunday after weeks of tests indicated surgery was necessary and remained in the intensive care unit at press time.
Bridgeport School Board schedules a May 18 noon meeting at the Coach House Inn to discuss expanding the tax base to include all automobiles owned by residents. The board approved the plan at a Monday session and also discussed a 30 day summer kindergarten for first graders starting June 7.
Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce launches a campaign to recruit new members contacting each local business. President Gordon Taylor emphasizes active support from the business community and proposes an Industrial Foundation to improve the local climate. Dues are 60 dollars per business and 12 dollars per individual. new members receive a 1971 72 placard.
A local sports banquet is scheduled for Thursday night with plans to honor athletes and coaches. Organizers invite players families and sponsors to attend the event highlighting season highlights and achievements.
The All-Sports Banquet will be held Thursday May 18 at 7 30 p m in the Bridgeport elementary school cafeteria. Don Newbury of Fort Worth will be the speaker. Wickets cost 2 50 and are available from Quarterback Club members sponsors or the coaching staff.

Bridgeport schools will host a Drug Awareness program announced by Superintendent A E Greer. Texas Department of Public Safety officer Jim Smith will visit the High School Science Department for a one day event and present a factual film.
