Ex-Army Captain arrested for Bridgeport sexual assault
28-year-old James Edward Ray, a former U S Army Infantry Captain with combat service in Afghanistan and Iraq, was arrested at the In Town Suites Motel in North Richland Hills at 1 58 a m on April 26 and charged with the April 22 sexual assault of a Bridgeport woman. Ray, who had been living in Bridgeport after recently being discharged, was found with a ballistic vest a loaded .45 caliber firearm and a military gas mask during custody. He was booked into Wise County Jail without bond after bond was raised from 25000 by District Judge John Foster.

Subscription price hike for The Index effective May 31
The Index announces price increases due to higher printing and fuel costs. Starting Wednesday May 31, single copies rise to 75 cents. Subscriptions to Wise, Jack and Montague County addresses move to 30 dollars annually, other areas 35 dollars. To ease impact, current rates for the Wise Jack Montague Counties region stay at 25 dollars and 30 dollars outside that area for up to three years if paid by May 31.

State-bound Colin Jones Qualifies for Austin Track Meet
Colin Jones of Bridgeport High School earned a state berth in the 100 meter dash at the Area Track Meet in Odessa with a 10.84 second finish, following a 22.02 second 200 meter dash and a second place overall in Odessa. Athletic director Danny Henson notes Jones is only the second BHS student to reach state, with Merle Wang the other from discus over 30 years ago.
