Bridgeport Council Raises Water and Sewer Rates

Bridgeport city council voted Monday night to raise water and sewer charges. Water rates for small domestic customers rose about 20 percent, industrial water rates up to ten percent for high usage, and sewer rates increased from one dollar to one dollar fifty per month. Continued on another page.

Burglars Strike Carpenter Lumber Company For A Second Time

Police chief Walter Dale reports Carpenter Lumber Company suffered a second burglary in a week on Saturday night March 22. Entry appeared to be via a key as no window or door damage was found. The raid netted 30 to 40 dollars in change a 12 gauge shotgun shells box a 4 shell box 10 shells a 22 shell box a Philco transistor radio and twelve pocket knives. In a separate incident the Juke Box at Glenns Drive In was ransacked on Tuesday night with possible entry through an unlocked or unsafeguarded rest room window.

Mitchell Wins Tax Suit Over Paradise School District

After a two day trial in Wise County District Court Judge Arthur Tipps voided Paradise Independent School District’s 1965 tax assessment on oil and gas properties owned by Mitchell & Associates Inc and others. The court found discrimination against Mitchell with 40 percent full value versus farm land under 20 percent. An injunction requires reassessment at the same rate across property.
