Wise County fire departments share a one day total of about $21,000 from the Firemen's Sale at the Women's Building. The event, sponsored by local outlets including the Index, drew generous donations and vigorous bidding.
City Manager Maury Brown announced a grant from ERDA to study all solar energy concepts including detailed reports on solar conversion systems. Bridgeport may pursue a 10 megawatt solar plant in planning by ERDA, with Solar King’s design under review along with others. Results expected in August. TP&L power cutoff in November 1978 could drive extensions or alternate power options.
Alfred E. Greer was honored as Bridgeport's Outstanding Citizen of 1976 at the Chamber of Commerce banquet. Since 1967 he has led Bridgeport schools and earlier built a long career in Texas education, beginning in Era near Gainesville.
Friday night at the high school auditorium features a Band Show with the theme 200 Years in Song a bicentennial salute. The 8 p.m. program offers tickets at 1.50 from band members the Band Booster Club or at the door. A large crowd is expected for the annual event.
The Bridgeport community schedules a town hall at the High School Auditorium on Tuesday March 30 at 7 30 p m to acquaint voters with incumbents and candidates. B I S D details include a superintendent, principals, a band project, and a chorus directed by June Taylor. A Dixieland student band and a patriotic medley will highlight the program along with a musical variety show.
Wise County volunteers raised more than 21000 at the Wise County Fire Sale held at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Decatur. Funds will be shared equally by ten fire departments to boost equipment and rural fire response. General Coordinator John Waggoner and sponsors Wise County Messenger Bridgeport Index thanked donors and buyers. a donor list will be published next week.
The City Council received an indefinite extension to review the Darwin Foundation offer of 22 million dollars for the Bridgeport Solar Plant. City Manager Maury Brown said the time is extended to determine a compatible solar system and allow further review.
