Herbert Aubrey Mitchell 45 died at Harris Hospital from burns after a caterpillar hit a gas pipeline four miles east of Bridgeport. The Continental Oil pipeline caused the blast while Mitchell bulldozed a thicket. Funeral at Hawkins Chapel.

Yellow Brick Road Theme Of Pageant In Wise County

The 1972 Wise County Our Little Miss and LaPetite contests adopt the Yellow Brick Road Wizard of Oz theme. Mary Helen Guinn succeeds Jerry Lynn Houser as pageant master of ceremonies. Sports wear is Friday, party dress and talent compete Saturday, with programs at 7 p.m. Admission is 1 dollar for adults and 50 cents for children.

Bridgeport High School's The Roundup earned a distinguished merit award in Local Paper high school division. Bridgeport Junior High's Yearling Stampede received an achievement award in the Junior High Mimeographed division. Dr. Max R. Haddick of UT Austin presented the honors at a Saturday banquet at Villa Capri Motor Hotel. About 3,600 students and teachers attended the conference.
