Bridgeport invites all residents to the Chamber of Commerce Banquet at Sally Martin Hall, Lake Bridgeport Methodist Camp, with tickets available from directors or at the door. The column recalls the prior Teacher Appreciation Banquet and shares the writer’s rushed Friday tending a sick calf and a missed event.
The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce annual banquet will be held Tuesday March 20 at 7 30 PM in Sally Martin Hall on Lake Bridgeport. The Citizen of the Year winner remains secret until announced. Gary Westmoreland will speak on urban renewal with color slides, and Harlan Bridwell will host. A Centennial cake centerpiece will be unveiled and two new local industries Sue-Ann’s clothing and Tamm Hydraulics will display products. Tickets cost 3.00.
Wise County plans may create Texas first county wide utility authority. Decatur commissioners voted to advertise the intent and to introduce a bill for creation to the legislature. The plan limits taxation and bonds to voter approval with a five member board and special districts that fund improvements locally.
Sixteen people were rounded up Friday night at a house south of Bridgeport off FM 920 by Wise County authorities. Eight face possession charges for marijuana and drug paraphernalia, with some also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Confiscated items included marijuana, smoking gear, a hypodermic needle, pills, and a small amount of adrenaline marked liquid. Lab analysis will follow. Arrested: Michael Dale Elliott, Wyatt Lee Ferguson Jr, Randy Jo Goins, Patricia Elise Lackey, David Alan Martin, Dennis Gill Reasoner, Jack Dean Starkey, and a 17 year old Azle girl. All but one had bond posted by Tuesday. The vacant house reportedly owned by a family recently moved from the county.
Bridgeport Volunteer Firemen invite the public to an open house this Sunday March 18 from 11 a.m. to p.m at their new Hovey Street fire hall. A free fish dinner is offered with menu including fish fries salad and trimmings.
